Your windows are an essential part of your home. Is it any wonder that you want them to look beautiful? With windows, you want to maintain your privacy, but you also want the sunshine to come through in all its glory. Choose window coverings or treatments that blend well with your décor. This way, all your rooms will look appealing and pulled together. Here’s some information on what window treatments are options for you and what you can expect from them.

Of course, if your home is far away from roads or other residences, you may be able to get away with practically anything you like, even no window coverings at all. However, most of us live in places where we need an element of privacy. Here are a few tips to get you started.

Shade Options
There are a variety of shades on the market that provide privacy or light. With fabric or roller shades, you will get complete coverage so that anyone from outside cannot see in—even at night when you have lights on inside your home. Non-sheer pleated and cellular shades provide excellent security with full glass coverage. You can find some that allow you to pull the top section down. This allows you to have light or view outside when you choose to do so. If you’re looking to save money on energy costs, you can purchase cellular shades that have an insulating effect as well.

Sheer and Non-Sheer Curtains and Draperies
Curtains and draperies have been a favorite for windows for decades. Sheer curtains look really beautiful; however, they are easily seen through in the evening hours. If you want privacy but really like the sheer look, consider using shades underneath.

Curtains and draperies that are opaque or lined are also available. When pulled together in the center, they will give you complete privacy at night. Simply pull them back to allow the light to come in during the daytime hours.

Shutters, Vinyl Blinds, and Wood Blinds
If you go with shutters, vinyl blinds, vertical/horizontal blinds, or wood blinds, they’re all going to offer you a good amount of privacy. Mini-blinds are extremely popular and also present a relatively affordable option. Just remember that nearly all shutters and blinds have slats that have the potential to offer a view inside from certain angles. All in all, though, you’ll get a good deal of privacy from any of these window options.

Colors and Patterns
Whatever window treatment option you choose, there are plenty of colors and patterns that will complement your home, providing a beautiful accent for your windows. In terms of curtains and draperies, they come in a rainbow of solid colors as well as every type of design you can imagine. Whatever you like, whether it’s floral, striped, or abstract, is possible. Wood shutters can be a great accent for a country-style décor and can be opened or closed to whatever degree you desire at the time. With blinds, you have plenty of options. Use them alone, add a valance or topper, or hang them in conjunction with some curtains or drapes.

You have plenty of choices when it comes to decorating your windows, no matter what degree of privacy you like. Keeping your home safe from the peering eyes of the outside world at night doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice beauty and style in your home. With a little creativity, your home’s décor can truly be your own.

How To Whitewash Your Furniture

Whitewash furniture is one of those things that drifts in and out of popularity. At the moment it is enjoying a period of rapid growth in popularity and many pieces are selling for a great deal of money. There are places that you can buy high quality white furniture such as bedroom furniture for good a good price, but if you want to make your own here is how.

1.Firstly you need to sand the piece of furniture down that you want to whitewash. This can be done just by using a piece of sandpaper or an electrical sanding device. If the piece has many layers of paint on it, you might need to use chemical paint stripping. You then need to clean the wood thoroughly to remove all dirt, dust and sawdust. wait for a while so that the item becomes touch dry

2.You then need to mix in a container, one parts water to two parts white latex paint. You’ll need a 3-inch brush and bowl of fresh water to wipe off mistakes. Use long careful sweeping brush stokes and go with the grain when painting. The paint will naturally soak right into the wood so you’ll need to give each patch a number of coats.

3.When you have covered the piece completely and whilst it is still damp to the touch, wipe a cloth along the grain until it starts to show through again. This is give the wood a light stain look but if you want a deeper more expensive look, just repeat the previous steps as many times as you like, four should do it though.

4.When you are happy with the look, give it a light sanding again to bring out the grain again and then seal the wood using clear satin polyurethane. let the substance dry before taking an abrasive nylon pad to it and rubbing gently over it. Repeat this as many times as you like until you get a look you like. Use this method to create a great white bathroom mirror, bedside table or even dresser.

Some of the most innovative interior decorating ideas can be inspired by something as simple as rugs. Maybe it’s that subtle colour, rich and deeply woven into the fibers of the design that inspires you to go right out and get a new paint color customized for your favourite room of the house. Maybe the big idea is hiding somewhere in the geometric patterns of some contemporary area rugs that will help you to select an architecturally-amazing lamp shade to polish off that one drab corner of your sitting room. Or perhaps, the area rug you found generates so much excitement in your imagination that you decide to scrap everything to create the room of your dreams.

Wherever you find your inspiration – be it in a texture or a particular decorating style, discount rugs can add either the final, finishing touch – or give you a place to just get started. After all, interior decorating ideas are everywhere. There is no idea too big, or too small. There are no limitations. Think outside the rug. Is it round, oval, rectangular or square? What pieces do you still need to find to put outside the rug? An ottoman?

What about the front entrance? Might you need a runner-style area rug to guide your steps from a fabulous foyer into the posh and elegant dining room? What about when your feet hit the floor first thing in the morning? Are they greeted by a hard unwelcoming surface? No! That’s no way to start your day! Consider instead the luxurious feel of a tufted rug in super-soft cotton. Cool in the summer, and cuddly-warm in winter, there’s a reason why this style has endured since it busted out all over (in glamorous gold) in the late 60s and early 70s.

The bathroom is an often un-thought space to place a designer area rug. Why should anyone be relegated to buying a department store nylon, rubber-backed matching set of boring and predictable toilet rugs and bath mats? That’s just wrong. With washable area rugs in endless sizes and shapes, your family bath can have display the personality that you do. And what’s more, it should. Your bathroom should be a place to indulge in relaxing refinements and luxury. Don’t spoil your Queen Sheba milk and vanilla bath by stepping out of the deep tub of wonderfulness and onto a trashy, plastic-y mess of a typecast bath mat.

Area rugs are forever the most attractive solution to covering hardwoods or ceramic tiling. With quality wall-to-wall carpeting costing so much, and an obvious no-no for anyone with indoor allergies, why would you ever commit to only one colour or style? With area rugs, you can switch it up from season to season, artistically, affordably, almost magically!

The customer service experts at Abingdon Rug can help to guide your early ideas into exploring all the 20,000 in-stock cheap area rugs options open to you. Think outside the rug. There lies your most beautiful inspiration.

The free spirited nature of the chic loft juxtaposed with antiques and open brick; highlighted with immense windows and high ceilings, has made this one of the most in style lifestyle movements in the twenty something pack across America.

Once preferred by artists and other inspired community, loft living has taken on a soul of its own, and is considered to be a pretty prestigious way to live. Many lofts are located within a renewed warehouse or old renovated factory. However, in some cities, new condo or apartment developments are rising that are dedicated to loft spaces or which have the penthouse floor units as desirable lofts. Home buyers and renters alike covet each of these.

What a first time loft inhabitant doesn’t appreciate are the various challenges that come with beautifying and furnishing a wide, airy loft home. It can be quite a challenge to create areas without squeezing out or boxing in the inherent flow of space. You want all areas to be exposed to the high ceilings and gigantic windows to take advantage of the natural light.

Some tips for put the accent on your high ceiling space…

1.    Use hefty, oversized ceiling fans made from natural woods and glossy metals, to draw the eye up and circulate the air. At once it is practical and inspiring.

2.    Leave all the substantial custom solid wood beams, antique corbels, oak newels and duck work exposed. If you are going to cover up the most outstanding facets of your loft space, you might as well go into a condo.

3.    Think GIGANTIC when you are picking lighting for your ceiling in the primary living space. You wish the lighting to be effective and very dramatic. Large drum shades and massive chandeliers can be outstanding choices.

Many lofts have a wood staircase that rises to the master bedroom area that is not a bedroom – but simply an fashionable sleeping space that has open views to the living space below. This design concept can also offer challenges but presents the perfect opportunity to play off the high ceilings. For your balcony railings, choose either natural wood that is stained to work with the inviting exposed brick, or use custom cast iron which is in keeping with the history of the building. For the baluster parts, definitely consider specially made wrought iron that come in straight or curved, decorative or basic, heavy or neat balustrades.

If you are lucky enough to rent a loft, you already see that you have somewhere very special to live. Now be fearless in your decor decisions and make it the most astonishing space it can be. You decided on an alternative home style – why settle for boring in interior design?

Backyard Pond Will Cheer You Up

I used to think that a family with a backyard pond is a very lucky family or a rich one – or maybe both. Now it is clear to all of us that we can have a backyard pond, we only need to have some room for it. This is not a rocket science actually, you just need to learn what the steps are and try to create your own design that you will be able to do step by step. It doesn’t have to be the daunting task that it used to be.

If you like to relax and enjoy in the nature, the backyard ponds are perfect for that. They used to be a bigger headache than they are today, because the new technology associated with backyard ponds offer an environment that is more ecologically balanced, look completely natural, are very low maintenance, and make for an excellent habitat for fish, turtles and other wildlife. Most of them are clean and crystal clear while the growth of algae is easily controlled.

You could get your pond designed by professionals who specialize in design and construction of low maintenance fish ponds and water gardens. Or you could go with the do it yourself route and buy each piece individually. A big plus is a pond kit that will have anything you could need, except for the place where you are going to put it all!) All the hassles aside, backyard ponds are a source of great tranquility in the garden and place to just sit and think.

Big number of backyard ponds is smaller in width and they are mostly placed in such a place that they can be seen from the deck or windows. Installing one of these gives you a plenty of time to relax and enjoy in the nature with your family members. In addition to the pond you will likely see a lot more wildlife which can be educational for your children.

The backyard ponds I like are the ones that have a small beach built in and those that use flexible liner to get unique designs. You will need this small graduation so that the critters could get inside and outside while the birds will be able to dip into the water, just how they love it. That is just another way to make your backyard pond special, something that will be a great addition to your house.
